Stay Motivated with a Debt Free Vision Board

Did you know you are 1.4 times more likely to achieve your goals when you vividly write them down? That’s why you need a Debt Free Vision Board in your life!

Because, let’s face it, becoming debt free is a lofty (but really awesome and important!) goal. While working towards financial freedom, obstacles will definitely arise. You may have to withdraw from your emergency fund, say no to buying fun new things, and decline expensive dinner outings with friends.

You will feel discouraged some days and need something to keep you motivated on your debt free journey.

By fully visualizing your goal and the process of achieving it, you are much more likely to stay motivated when things get hard.

With that being said, let’s start making your Debt Free Vision Board today!

What is a Debt Free Vision Board?

Your debt free vision board is a compilation of all your financial goals, aspirations, plans, dreams, and ideas.

Some choose to create a physical vision board by hanging a bulletin board in their home, and others create one virtually using a platform like Pinterest.

The most important thing about storing your vision board is that it is in a place where you will see it consistently. By seeing your financial goals and progress all in one place, you will have a constant reminder to help you stay motivated and encouraged to keep paying off debt.

Identify your why

Why do you want to get out of debt?

Dig deep and be really specific with your answers.

Do you want financial freedom and security? How will becoming debt free change the way you, your spouse, and family live? Why is that important to you?

The deeper you understand your why, the more important your debt free goal becomes.

Create actionable steps

Saying “I want to get out of debt” is a pretty big (and broad) goal. With big goals, it’s important to make actionable steps on how to achieve them.

Do you want to use the Debt Snowball or Debt Avalanche method to structure your repayment plan? Which balance do you want to pay off first? When do you want to be out of debt?

Write down all of the accounts that you owe money on, make a realistic and attainable plan on how you want to pay off each account, and add them to your Debt Free Vision Board.

Visualize the process

Add inspiration related to how you want to pay off debt to your vision board.

If you know you need to cut expenses out of your budget, consider including images on frugal living, minimalism, saving money, or living with less.

It’s also important to visualize the progress that you are making towards your goals. One popular way of doing this is keeping a debt repayment tracker so that you can visualize how each payment reduces your balance each month.

Visualize the outcome

Most importantly, add content about how you will feel and what you will do after achieving your debt free goal.

What emotions will you experience after making your final payment? What is the first thing you want to do when you become debt free?

The more vivid you can make your debt free vision board, the more impactful it will become.

Because of this, my Debt Free Vision Board contains images about travel, buying a home, and freely living life to the fullest. I am looking forward to the level of freedom I will feel after paying off my final balance, and that is reflected in my vision board.

Final Thoughts

A vision board is an incredibly useful and powerful tool when it comes to maintaining motivation. If you are looking for some added inspiration when it comes to paying off debt, then this is a creative and fun way to do it.
